Not only did Detective Pikachu simply preform well, but we called the film great and said that “Detective Pikachu mixes humor, heart, and gloriously-rendered Pokémon to deliver a simple yet entertaining time.”
While Detective Pikachu earned the top spot for video game opening weekends of all time, it still couldn’t beat out the worldwide phenomenon known as Avengers: Endgame. In its third weekend, it still managed to earn $63 million and hold on to first place.
If Detective Pikachu wishes to also become the top earning video game film of all time, it will need to beat out Lara Croft: Tomb Raider’s $131 million that it reached over its entire domestic run.
