If you are not familiar with Gamescom, you will soon be. One of the world’s largest trade show for computer and video games will be stepping into Asia for the first time, expanding the game show into one of the fastest growing gaming markets in the world.
Dubbed Gamescom Asia, the inaugural edition will be held in Singapore from 15 to 18 October, 2020. According to the press statement, Gamescom Asia aims to function as the premier platform for game developers in Asia to venture globally, and also serve as a meeting point for international publishers and developers to showcase their products. The event will also feature new and highly anticipated releases, along with other gaming related offerings.
Consisting of the business area, the entertainment area and the industry gaming conference, Gamescom Asia covers the entirety of video games culture. The event comprises a two-day industry gaming conference and a three-day trade and public exhibition, which will also include esports events, emerging gaming tech exhibition, gaming workshops, meet-and-greet sessions with guest artists and developers, cosplay activities and so on.
As of just now, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) and gamescom organiser Koelnmesse, to mark their new partnership for the upcoming festival.
“This is a launch event that we are all looking forward to. The region has been hungry for a Tier One gaming event and we now have all the ingredients to successfully cater to this need. With strong partnerships with GameStart, the Singapore government, and the gaming ecosystem, we are expecting to attract over 30,000 enthusiasts and gaming industry professionals to the inaugural gamescom asia.” said by Mathias Kuepper, Managing Director of Koelnmesse Singapore,
Keith Tan, the Chief Executive cum representative of the Singapore Tourism Board also expressed, “Having gamescom asia in Singapore is testament to our reputation in establishing thought leadership across various fields, including the gaming industry. Apart from adding vibrancy to our events calendar, we aim for gamescom asia to position Singapore as the natural base for regional gaming content and further our ambition potential to be an eSports hub in the region.”
The launch of Gamescom Asia comes at an exciting time as 2020 will likely be the year where next-gen consoles hit the market. The event will certainly bring huge offerings to gamers and games companies in the region.
Interesting fact about Gamescom, sponsored by game, the Association for the German Games Industry, the game show is the industry’s largest event measured by exhibition space and number of visitors, with over 370,000 visitors and 1,037 exhibitors from a total of 56 countries attending the show in Cologne last year.
